As they themselves say, “We were Horror Squad long before we decided to start the band.” It’s true. These guys have been thick as thieves since the dawn of time it seems, and in 2005 they decided to use their powers for music, instead of good.
Horror Squad is a difficult band to put your finger on, and that is by all means a good thing. Their influences range from traditional ’77 punk, to 2-Tone, to reggae to newer raw sounds similar to bands like Dillinger Four or The Bronx. Three different members take lead vocal at different times, giving them a unique and diverse sound. Their songs range from the quick, one minute thrash tune, to the five-minute reggae get-down. One minute, it’s all out brawl moshing, the next minute it’s smooth grooving
and skanking, and suddenly we’re back pogoing. All this makes a Horror Squad show serious fun, with a capital “F-U.”
Hailing from Chino, California, they used the town’s long punk rock history to not just be part of the scene, but create a scene. Using the warehouse rented out for practice space, they started throwing shows out of the building that steadily kept growing. Horror Squad plays every show, and the majority of every crowd is there for them. Now, anyone in the Chino punk scene knows about “the warehouse” and Horror Squad.
Having just finished up their first LP, titled “24” Sonic Vampire,” the world is bracing itself knowing these guys are about to take it by storm. Get ready because Horror Squad wants to party with you, drink you under the table, and give you tips on how to survive the zombie apocalypse. Seriously, they run drills.
